Golnaz Shariatzadeh is a composer and interdisciplinary artist whose work bridges music, animation, and experimental media to create immersive, psychologically charged spaces. Originally from Iran, they draw on a diverse background in composition, performance, and visual media to craft works that challenge boundaries and foster deep emotional engagement.
Their music has been performed across Europe by leading ensembles such as NADAR Ensemble, TAK Ensemble, and Ensemble Recherche, and has been featured at some of the continent's most prestigious festivals. These include Gaudeamus Muziekweek (Netherlands), Warsaw Autumn (Poland), Wien Modern (Austria), Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (UK), Musica Strasbourg (France), and Ultima Festival (Norway). Highlights include fabric of sorrow (2023), presented at Gaudeamus, Warsaw Autumn, and Wien Modern, and MOM (2023), performed by Broken Frames Syndicate at Beethovenfest in Germany.
Golnaz has garnered numerous accolades for their work, including being nominated for the 2024 Gaudeamus Award and other European distinctions include winning the 2024 Riot Ensemble Call for Scores and receiving recognition from Ensemble NAMES (Austria) and the DE SINGEL program (Belgium).
As a PhD candidate in music composition at Harvard University, Golnaz studies with Chaya Czernowin and Hans Tutschku, following earlier training with Roscoe Mitchell and Zeena Parkins at Mills College.
